UPAYA MENGURANGI GANGGUAN INSOMNIA LANSIA DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN TEKNIKPROGRESSIVE MUSCLE RELAXATION
Abstract
Elderly population in almost every country has increased. It has been followed by many problems including insomnia which may affect the quality of life the elderly themselves. Alternative therapies are often used by nurses to cope with insomnia in elderly. The purpose of this study was to determine the Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique on decreasing insomnia in the elderly.This study used quasi experimental research design with nonequivalent control group design. The population on this research is elderly experiencing insomnia at PantiPangestiLawang. Total respondents are 11 for Progressive Muscle Relaxation group and 11 for control group. Collecting data used a questionnaire of The Insomnia Severity Index. The data were analyzed with Wilcoxon Signed Ranks and Mann Whitney testStatistical analysis using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed there was difference in insomnia in the elderly before and after and Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique was given, while the control group there was no difference. To determine the effect Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique, Mann Whitney Test was used and it can be concluded that Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique effective to decrease insomnia in elderly.Progressive Muscle Relaxation technique can be used in elderly both individually or by group not only to decrease insomnia but also as a tool to maintain their healthiness. Nurses can give Progressive Muscle Relaxation to decrease insomnia in the elderly depends on their needs.
